Have you had insufficient funds this past year and don’t know why? (Besides the obvious Obama Administration total disaster and failure to lead America on the right path)
This happened to me after Wells Fargo took over Wachovia months ago. I wrote a check to pay my power $180.00 with a balance of $230.00. Knowing I had $50.00 left I used my atm card to buy $30.00 gas. The next day got an insufficient funds notice and a $35.00 fee, since I relied on my previous Wachovia online account for years I never kept a hard copy registry of my transactions as there was never a need to, Wells Fargo changed all that. They convinced me after I told them I never needed a hard copy that the error was mine from an earlier time in life and the $35.00 fee stuck……………………….
A week later after making a deposit I saw a mysterious $125.00 credit and went in the bank to see who deposited it and from where, three hours later no one in the bank could tell me but assured me it was MY MONEY. I was not pleased knowing someone somewhere put money in my account and they could not tell me where it came from so I called the 800 online number at home. I was quickly shuffled through several “Specialists” then a man appeared and said “Mr Landry, You weren’t supposed to see that transaction for $125.00 I apologize”. He expected that to make me feel better, it did not. I already HATE Wells Fargo from the ridiculous and unacceptable method they use for online banking records and demanded he explain what the hell was going on.
He then explained, when you put your atm card in a gas pump “IT” (the GAS PUMP, not a human) automatically deduces the maximum allowable gas purchase of that particular gas station, you pump your gas, the GAS PUMP credits your account the amount it took back then deduces the actual purchase. The credit I saw for $125.00 was the GAS PUMP on the same day I had insufficient funds for my FPL check.
I then said thank you for clearing this matter up that explains why I got charged for insufficient funds. The bank computer got my FPL check the same time the GAS PUMP took $125.00 from my account, his reply was, “The chances of that happening are one in a million” and still refused to refund my $35.00.
That was the last time I used my Wells Fargo atm card, now I use cash.

Wow. I knew they took a bit extra out and then credited it back but I’ve only seen a $1.00 and I thought that was only when you used your debit card as a credit card at the pump. Now I’m going to check my account online everytime I get gas. Thanks for the heads up!
If you have a credit union nearby, they are your best bet for banking. Most have all the products & services as the big banks and their fees are much lower for everything.
Lost all my credit cards three – four years ago using them to stay afloat paying bills, way the dollar was explained to me is thats an atm purchase usage fee. I always saw that online after buying gas that day then the purchase was deducted the next day.
Wachovia online was easy, deposits, purchases, and current balance was always there to see, you could go back for years and always see the balance on any particular day. Wells Fargo changed all that, the balance column changes after every transaction forcing you to maintain a hand written ledger to keep up.
The fuel pump debit card relationship changed about two years ago when the GAS PUMP started telling ME to “Please See The Cashier”. My Wachovia debit card didn’t have a Visa or Maser Card logo on it. When I used that card the slot I stuck it in instantly knew my current balance to approve or reject that transaction. Wachovia explained the new cards with the Visa logo would eliminate a rejection of purchase as Visa would guarantee payment.
Four years ago I could have bought a new Corvette with my credit cards, today I have none, I have done nothing wrong but deciding to be a carpenter forty years ago.
SpeedJerry–adding you to my Links to Freedom blogroll–sorry it took so long. I am bad about maintenence sometimes.
